Why We Started

Chinook Piling installs engineered screw pile foundations across Calgary and southern Alberta. Decks, garages and additions for homeowners and builders; underpinning for footings that have started to move; grade beams, solar arrays and wellsite foundations for commercial and industrial clients.

The ground here is the reason the work exists. Frost drives 1.2 to 1.8 metres down in a typical winter, and the clay through Calgary's north and east swells and shrinks with every wet and dry cycle. A footing sitting in that top layer moves with it. A pile bearing below it does not.

What we try to do differently is show our work. Every pile gets a torque reading, torque tells you the capacity actually achieved, and you get that record when we leave. A pile with no torque log is steel in the ground and somebody's word for it.

We will also tell you when you do not need us. A ground-level deck under 600 mm often does not need engineered piles, a small shed can usually sit on skids, and on shallow bedrock a different foundation is sometimes the right answer. Saying so costs one quote and earns the next call.
