The ground under Okotoks
The Sheep River cuts a valley straight through the middle of Okotoks, and that one fact splits the town into two different foundation problems. Down on the terraces either side of the river — the older core, the flats, the properties backing onto the valley — the ground is river alluvium: silts, sands and gravels laid down in bands, variable over surprisingly short distances, in places with perched water above the regional table.
